Jiayu Yang is a research assistant at the University of Bayreuth, focusing on knowledge graphs, metadata research, and data mining for African research materials. His work explores the implementation of open-source LLMs on African research data, connecting technical infrastructure with the interpretive concerns of humanities scholarship. He also brings background in low-resource NLP, AI policy research, chatbot development, and grassroots NLP community building in East Africa.
