Lydia Kila Taban
Masakhane
Lydia Kila Taban is the Community Manager at Masakhane. Her work at Masakhane focuses on bolstering NLP communities in Africa by supporting collaboration towards the creation of African Language Datasets, Benchmarks, and Models, as well as fostering a resilient and inclusive open-source community. Lydia formerly led on Technology at UNICEF on the Oky project. With a background in Software Engineering, Community Management, and Data Science, she is at the confluence of collaborative homegrown solutions, for Africa, by Africans. She has also worked on Digital Data Collection and Analysis pipelines in the Humanitarian context in South Sudan with stakeholders including the World Bank and UN Women. Lydia holds a Bachelor of Science in Applied Computer Technology (conc. Mobile Distributed Systems Eng.) from The United States International University-Africa.
